Intrathecal Treatment with PRP and MSCs

A regenerative therapy designed to support the brain, spine, and central nervous system.
What Is Intrathecal Therapy?
Intrathecal therapy is a specialized procedure in which Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) are carefully delivered into the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) through the lower spine. By placing these regenerative agents directly into the fluid that bathes the brain and spinal cord, we bypass the blood–brain barrier and allow the MSCs and PRP to circulate throughout the central nervous system where they are most needed.
How MSCs Work in the Intrathecal Space
Fresh umbilical cord–derived MSCs contain powerful healing properties:
- Reduce inflammation throughout the brain and spinal cord
- Modulate immune responses that may contribute to neurological symptoms
- Support neuronal repair and protect existing nerve cells
- Promote healthier nerve signaling and communication
- Release trophic factors that stimulate the body’s own repair mechanisms
This therapy is commonly considered for conditions such as TBI, post-stroke recovery, spinal cord inflammation, neuropathies, cognitive decline, and other neurological issues.
Role of PRP in Intrathecal Treatment
PRP contains a high concentration of your own natural growth factors. When used intrathecally alongside MSCs, PRP:
- Enhances cell survival and cell signaling
- Increases tissue repair activity
- Supports neural regeneration and neuroprotection
- Helps create a more favorable environment for MSCs to work effectively
The combination of MSCs + PRP provides a synergistic regenerative effect.
Step-by-Step Procedure
- 1
Patient Preparation
You will be positioned comfortably, typically lying on your side or seated with the spine gently flexed.
- 2
Local Anesthesia
A numbing agent is applied to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible.
- 3
Intrathecal Access (Lumbar Puncture)
A highly experienced physician inserts a fine needle into the lower lumbar region to access the CSF.
- 4
Injection of MSCs and PRP
The fresh cells and PRP are slowly introduced into the CSF, allowing them to disperse naturally throughout the spinal canal and upward toward the brain.
- 5
Post-Procedure Positioning
Patients often lie flat for a short period to support even distribution and minimize the minor pressure sensation that some people feel.
What Patients Typically Feel
- Mild pressure or fullness in the lower back during or shortly after injection
- Temporary headache in a small percentage of patients (related to CSF pressure changes)
- A relaxed or warm sensation as MSCs circulate
- Most patients resume light activity later the same day
Benefits Patients Commonly Report
- Reduced nerve pain and inflammation
- Better cognitive clarity and memory
- Improved motor function or coordination
- Decreased spasticity or neuropathy symptoms
- Enhanced energy and overall neurological function
- Long-term regenerative support due to MSC signaling effects
(Individual results vary, and multiple sessions may be recommended depending on the condition.)
Safety & Expertise
Our intrathecal procedures are performed by highly trained physicians experienced in regenerative neurology. We use fresh, never-frozen umbilical cord–derived MSCs, harvested in-house for superior viability and potency, paired with your own PRP to maximize safety and effectiveness.
