If either of the parents had Covid, or was vaccinated for Covid, would that have any effect on the UC-MSCs?
Here is the short answer: Current scientific evidence does not show that prior COVID vaccination or a past COVID infection in either parent makes umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) less safe or less effective. The only potential concern would be a significant COVID infection during the pregnancy itself, which could affect the placental environment, but reputable laboratories evaluate the actual tissue and cell quality rather than relying on COVID history alone.
Bottom line: Donor screening, cell viability, sterility, passage number, and laboratory quality standards are far more important indicators of UC-MSC quality than whether the mother or father was vaccinated or previously had COVID.
